Tarpon time in the Bay

Last Updated on July 2, 2020 by SteamWorks

I love this time of year beside the fact that is unbelievably hot out. Tarpon have been pushing down the coast starting in late April and by may in full swing. It takes some time for these fish to travel up the bay and make their way on to some of the flats and in the creeks and canals. Its an exciting time. The majority of these fish are juvenile tarpon anywhere from 5 pounds up to 60 and sometime the 100 pound class fish. Most are between 10 and 30 pounds. If live bait is easy which is usually is then it can be easy picking, but lately I have been catching some tarpon mostly on artificial. It allows me to cover more ground and cast to every fish I see rolling. After the tarpon bite stop we switch gears and start targeting snook, redfish, and trout. The bite remains solid especially the snook bite. If weather permits I like to get out and net some bait as early as possible. If it does not allow for me to safely target bait I switch to artificial and cut bait combiantion. I prefer to fish artificial with the more experienced angler and live bait with the novice anglers. If you ever wanted to catch a trapon now is the time and I highly recommend booking a trip now. Call or Text either 813-358-6046 or 407-977-7650. “Our group had a blast with Capt. Casey. The boat was comfortable and had plenty of room to accommodate our group of 5. Very knowedgable, very friendly and great fisherman. The redfish and trout where great for dinner.”
