Spring Time Fishing Report

Spring Time Fishing Report

Last Updated on March 8, 2021 by SteamWorks

Spring time is a wonderful time of year here in Florida and one of my favorite times to fish. Cool mornings that warm up to comfortable high temps in the low 80s. Bright blue bird skies and clear water still makes for incredible sight fishing opportunities. The only thing bad I have to say about the Spring time is that “spring wind blows!! Sometimes it can be hard to get out when the wind is ripping, but it does so in order to spread all that pollen around. The world is an amazing place. Speaking of amazing, the redfish bite has been nothing short of spectacular as their numbers have definitely increased since the closure. There are a lot of big fish around, and so far, the largest caught was on artificial and was just shy of 36 inches. Redfish are cruising the flats near the mangrove shorelines and can be found out on the flats when the tide drops out. We still have some negative low tides from time to time and that makes for some excellent tailing fish. If you can get to the white bait the snook bite can be incredible. A lot of these fish are making their ways out from the safety and warmth of the creeks and canals and staging themselves on the flats. The big females will make their ways towards their spawning sites near the passes, bridges, and beaches. Big trout are also pushing shallow in preparation for their major spawning period. We caught five trout from 20 to 22 inches the other day and slot just as many big girls. Plenty of slot fish being caught and an incredible amount of under slot trout. That is such a good thing to see. Ladyfish, jacks and mackerel are also all over the place. The cobia will start to come inshore. Also, it will be the beginning of Tarpon season in a few months and I am already seeing Tarpon in areas that I usually don’t see them till later in the summer. I can’t wait to see what fish this spring brings to the boat. The warmer the water gets the more bait fishing will move in and the more bait the more active the fish will be! On another note, my new Bonefish Hilltide 22 boat is getting close to being ready. Once this boat is here I will be focusing more on live bait trips as I get her dialed in. The best part is that I will be able to take 4 passengers and not have to worry about getting beat up crossing the middle of the bay. If you would like to get out on the water, I will be ready and you won’t be disappointed. Book your Tampa Fishing Charters Today!! 813-358-6046

“Our group had a blast with Capt. Casey. The boat was comfortable and had plenty of room to accommodate our group of 5. Very knowedgable, very friendly and great fisherman. The redfish and trout where great for dinner.”
